Transfer Orders
Transfer Orders are the formal version of inventory transfers. While quick transfers (on the Transfer page) just move stock, Transfer Orders let you track the shipment — with a transfer number, shipping carrier, tracking info, and status updates.

Use Transfer Orders when you want to:
- Track which carrier is shipping the transfer
- Add a tracking number for the shipment
- Set an estimated arrival date
- Keep a formal record of status changes (draft → in transit → received)
For simple moves between nearby locations (like moving items from the back room to the sales floor), the quick Transfer page is probably easier.
How It Works
- Start on the Transfer page — Queue up the items you want to move (see Transferring Inventory).
- Go to Inventory > Transfer Orders in the sidebar.
- Your pending transfers are available to formalize into a Transfer Order.
- Fill in the details:
- Transfer Order number — A reference number for your records
- Status — Draft, Created, Sent, Received, or Canceled
- ETA — When you expect the items to arrive
- Shipping carrier — Who's handling the shipment
- Tracking number — The carrier's tracking reference
- Update the status as the transfer progresses.
Transfer Order Statuses
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Draft | Transfer is being prepared, not yet shipped |
| Created | Transfer order has been created |
| Sent | Items have been shipped and are on the way |
| Received | Items have arrived at the destination |
| Canceled | Transfer was called off |
You can update the status directly in the table — just click the status dropdown and select the new one.
Viewing Transfer Order Details
Click on any Transfer Order row to open the detail panel on the right side. This shows:
- The full list of items being transferred
- Quantities for each item
- Status of each line item
- Source and destination locations
Good to Know
- Transfer Orders create a paper trail for auditing and accountability.
- Status changes and shipping details are all editable inline — just click to update.
- Each Transfer Order shows up in your Inventory History as transfer in/out records.
- Transfer Orders work best for moves between locations that involve actual shipping.
